Gender Studies Department, Punjab University Lahore held a dialogue to highlight Gender Based Violence. Representatives from law, religion and civil society were invited to discuss the issue keeping in view its multi dimensional angles. The DSF team comprised Masarrat Misbah, and two acid bun survivors; Sarwari Begum and Bushra Shafi.
The religious representative explained the Islamic view point which gives women equal rights, forbidding all forms of gender disparity. The law expert emphasized the need for strict implementation of law.
Bushra Shafi and Sarwari Begum narrated the sad incidents which changed their lives. They were however, thankful to God for their survival and appreciated the support of Depilex Smileagain Foundation. The medical treatment followed by vocational training arranged by DSF, gave them new life. Bushra Shafi appealed to the imams’ of mosques to promote respect for women during Friday prayer sermons.
Masarrat Misbah highlighted DSF Mission and pledged to pursue all related activities to support victims of Acid and kerosene oil burns. She expressed the need to establish a rehabilitation centre and appealed the philanthropists to come forward and contribute in this noble task.
