15 acid victims gathered from KPK, Punjab, Sindh and Baluchistan to learn preventive measures against fires and acid burns. The workshop was conducted by Masarrat Misbah in Islamabad on 3rd December 2013. The workshop objective was to train the participants in preventive and safety measures for fire and acid burns so that in turn they are able to educate and guide their communities.
Acid throwing is an intentional crime and direct throwing does instantly damage the effected parts. However in such cases if immediate precautions are taken and medical services reached the damage can be much reduced.
Most burns happen in the home. Kitchen and fire heaters are focal places for accidents. Simple safety measures decrease the chances of anyone getting burned.
Masarrat Misbah elaborated on the above two situations and educated the participants about:
- Home safety measures
- Immediate provision of first aid
- Cleaning of fire burns
- Cleaning of chemical burns
- Stop, drop and roll methodology
- Proper medical treatment and follow up
