All over the world women have always been considered less competitive than men. Usually, they are thought as house bound creatures that can only look after their families and nurture children. But women are a lot more capable than that. They have proven themselves with their intelligence and potential. Today we see women flourishing in all fields and achieving leaps and bounds outside the walls of the household.
Women are playing remarkable roles in different domains of life. From all over the world women have created their place in politics, entrepreneurship, medicine, information technology, engineering etc. They are country ambassadors, presidents and prime ministers. Let’s have a few examples of successful women from all over the globe.
Condoleezza Rice is an American political scientist and diplomat. She served as the 66th United States Secretary of State, and was the second person to hold that office in the administration of President George W. Bush. Rice was the first female African-America Secretary of State.
Mother Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity which in 2012 consisted of over 4,500 sisters and is active in 133 countries. They run hospices and homes for people with HIV/AIDS, leprosy and tuberculosis; soup kitchens; children’s and family counselling programmes; orphanages; and schools. Members of the order must adhere to the vows of chastity, poverty and obedience, and the fourth vow, to give “Wholehearted and Free service to the poorest of the poor”.
Women of Pakistan are not behind.
Fatima Jinnah was a dental surgeon, biographer, stateswoman, and one of the leading Founding mothers of modern-state of Pakistan. , She was the younger sister of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan. Fatima Jinnah and other women like Mrs Rana Liaqat Ali Khan, Lady Nusrat Haroon, Begum Khair un Nisa, Begum Jahan Ara Shahnawaz and countless other ladies played a great role in the Pakistan Movement.
Begum Salma Tasadduque is also remembered as a pioneer of freedom movement. With the formation of the Punjab Provincial Women’s Subcommittee, she became its most active member and in 1940 she was elected as one of its Secretaries. She helped in opening up primary schools and industrial homes for girls in Lahore. In the field of literature, she attained a remarkable position as a writer and poet. The translation of ‘Cleopatra’ into Urdu is one of her accomplishments.
Benazir Bhutto was a politician, stateswoman and the first Muslim women, elected as Prime Minister of Pakistan. She was noted for her charismatic authority and political astuteness, She was the eldest daughter of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, a former prime minister of Pakistan and founder of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP),.In 1982, at the age of 29, Benazir Bhutto became the chairperson of PPP, making her the first woman in Pakistan to head a major political party.
In social work women have also played a commendable job.
Mukhtar Mai, a Pakistani icon made her personal tragedy—her gang-rape in 2002—into an untiring effort for justice and education. She has set up the Mukhtar Mai Women’s Organization and schools in her village, Meerwala.
Pakistani women are achieving the best in media too. They are making their names as journalists, news anchors, producers, directors and actors. A great example of Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy who is arguably Pakistan’s most celebrated woman after “Saving Face”, her documentary with Daniel Junge, won Pakistan its first Oscar.
Sports women have a great role in creating a soft image of a country. In Pakistan, Kiran is an Olympic swimmer, and one of the first international female swimmers for Pakistan. She holds many national records. Moreover, Pakistan’s Women Cricket Team has also made the country proud of them. They won the gold medal in the Asian Games, 2010.
Besides that in our country women are leading doctors, engineers and IT experts. Women in Pakistan are not behind in the field of research too
In Pakistan, women are very talented and passionate to achieve higher positions and make a difference to the society. They should be given proper space and freedom to explore themselves and help society grow.
