Bela Nawaz, a student of Department of Sociology, University of Karachi is conducting a PhD research on ‘A sociological study of Women’s Experiences of Violence. She interviewed Depilex Smileagain survivors Sabra Sultana and Kanwal Qayoom. Her research is an attempt to unfold Behavioral Pattern of Men in crime. For centuries, male dominated societies have created negative attitudes towards women among men. Many older children’s stories in all cultures contain gender stereotyping. Boys are often portrayed as being active, adventurous, and goal-oriented, while young girls are typically shown as passive and staying indoors. Men are direct and in control, while women are submissive followers. Men who assault women are actually living up to cultural prescriptions that are cherished in society – aggressiveness, male dominance and female subordination – and they are using abuse and physical force as a means to enforce that dominance.
The two females who were victimized by their spouses gave answers to a number of questions and highlighted their personal experiences to support the research topic.
