Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design (PIFD) is one of the leading institutes imparting Fashion and design education in Pakistan. Various departments impart quality education in fashion and design related fields. The Jewelry Design and Gemological Sciences Department aims to bring delicacy, innovation and creativity in the designing of jewelry. The department equips the students with the specialized knowledge of the field to handle and manage all sorts of gems. Dua Fatima, a student of final year focused her thesis on voicing tales of acid burn women.
Her conceptual jewelry products seek to advocate and promote an awareness campaign for acid violence in Pakistan. The designs narrate tales of acid burnt women to comment upon the feelings of mutilation, transformation, trauma, and healing. Utilizing mixed media and a combination of precious and semi precious metals, a collection of wearable and decorative objects is developed with the meanings being subtly revealed.
The final thesis work of students was displayed in the auditorium of the Institute. On the invitation of Dua Fatima, Masarrat Misbah and Ayesha Taslim visited the exhibition, met with the principal, faculty members and students. The students enthusiastically explained their thesis ideas. Every thesis depicted a theme taken from nature, culture or daily life.
